Staying with us at The Storehouse - Orcadian Food Art and Style
We have eight luxurious en-suite rooms situated on the upper two floors - all have lift access and are in spotless condition with a very high standard of cleanliness. The Storehouse ventilation system is on full fresh air and there is no re-circulation of air throughout our whole building, we have solar heating and a heat recovery system and have taken all precautions to be as green as possible within our building.
Many of the materials in our rooms have been recycled from this historic B Listed building which was built originally as a Pork and Herring Curing Station also known as a salt store where the locals cured their fish and meat. Our first floor rooms have original wooden posts in situ, believed to be recycled from tall mast sailing ships which were wrecked on Orkney shores around 1880. There also runs a massive long beam the full length of the building on the first foor with feature detailing such as wooden shutters re-cycled from original timber boards , flag stone sills - which originally laid on the inside ground courtyard for the horses and carts to enter.
Each room has its own Orcadian character and original paintings hang painted by Judiths sister Jane Glue who is a well known local watercolour artist.
Jane also took the black and white photos which hang on the first floor and were taken before any work was started to the building when it was in its original state. In the restaurant you will also see old Ink bottles, artifacts and books left from when The Storehouse was used as a printers in the mid 20th Century.
On the end wall is a mural of the Orkney Norn dialect taken from original pages of the Orkney Norn book which were left in the building before work begun.
All our en suite bathrooms have underfloor heating , spacious walk-in rainfall showers and our four superior rooms have double ended baths with large waterfall showers and on the top floor the bedrooms have remote controlled velux windows. Our beds are super king size and if required can be made into twins, although we would suggest you book either a superiour or luxury room if you do require twin beds. Luxury Egyptian cotton bedding is standard in every room and an extra pull out bed for children under 12 can be made available in the superior rooms. Soft furnishings and blackout curtains have been especially designed and made from Tweed with thick cotton velvet. There are large flat screen smart TVs, USB charging points, reading lights, fluffy bath robes, complimentary choice of tea pigs tea, coffee and local shortbread in every room and fresh milk is always available from reception. The superior and luxury rooms also have large console tables ideal as work stations.
FREE WI FI
Free WI FI is provided throughout the whole building so there is no need to log on
